How do the characters dreams affect their actions and interactions with others?

The life of these itinerant workers is lonely. They do have one thing in common: they dream of a home. They long for the sense of place and identity that comes with having a home. We see this reflected in most of the main characters. The men on the ranch do not feel a sense of place and consequently keep to themselves.
