In my opinion, George is merely venting his frustration. Without a doubt, his life would be easier without Lennie..... it was also be far more lonely. George knows that he has the priviledge of Lennie's company, he knows that the fact they move together from place to place makes Lennie like family, something the other men don't have. Lennie is more than just company..... he loves George like a brother, he cares about him, and he would do anything for him.
