THey are both so similar yet so different. They loath each other yet see themselves in each other.

Consider they are both the loneliest people on an already lonely ranch. If you were to look up the word lonely in a Steinbeck dictionary, you might see their pictures. Crooks is black and isolated because of this.Curley's wife is a woman married to an abusive man with small guy complex. Curley's wife is so inconsequential and off limits that she doesn't even get a name. In each other they see a similar pain and it comes out in antagonism.
