When cCurley's wife enters Crooks' bunk she observes, "they left all the weak ones here." Explain how this quote supports the idea that the author, Steinbeck, is trying to prove to his audience the theme: THE WORLD CONSPIRES TO CRUSH THOSE WHO ARE NOT THE FITTEST.

Crooks, Lennie and Candy are all considered disposable. They are all "handicapped" in the eyes of society. Crooks is black and disabled, Candy is old and disabled, and Lennie is considered "dumb". Ironically Curley's wife who has a life equally weak as the men, she literally is called her husband's property, recognizes the status of these men.
