why does Mrs. Johansen and Uncle Henrik create the '' death of an Aunt Birte''?

They do this to trick the soldiers into thinking it was a dead woman but keeping cloths in the coffin as a storage for Jewish people to be warm. They also usee the "funeral" as a chance to have a meeting.
