Life is difficult in Denmark during the Nazi occupation. German soldiers patrol the streets, Jews are in danger because the Nazis are searching for them. Members of the Resistance are also in danger because of their revolutionary actions. The girls must walk to and from school with caution, taking care not to draw attention to themselves. There are shortages of some foods; food rationing is a part of everyday life.
