What is the symbolic meaning of the dress Ben selects for Fallon?

The dress is a symbol of Fallon’s insecurity. Since Fallon sustained burning injuries, she has never accepted her scars. The dress Ben proposes is short; therefore, if Fallon puts it on, it will expose her scars. Ben says the short dress will make Fallon look sexy in their dinner meeting. However, Fallon's refusal to wear the dress shows that she hates her body due to the injuries she sustained several years ago.

What is the main irony in the novel November 9?

Since childhood, Fallon has always wanted to be an actress in Hollywood. Even after getting involved in a fire accident, Fallon strongly feels she should pursue her dreams. Ironically, Fallon's father tells her to forget about acting because she is ugly. According to the father, Fallon's scars make her look unattractive, automatically disqualifying her from an acting career. Readers do not expect a father who should instill confidence in her children to do the contrary. Instead of giving his child the confidence to face life with courage, O'Neil tells her she is not gorgeous.

What is the main conflict between Ben and O’Neil?

Benton clashes with O'Neil on two occasions. The first incident is when Ben discovers that his mother is having a secretive sexual affair with O'Neil. O'Neil's actions anger Ben, and when he confirms that his mother and O'Neil are inside the house, he sets it on fire. The second incident when Ben clashes with O'Neil is when he overhears him discouraging Fallon from participating in an acting context because she is ugly. Ben disrupts the meeting and tells Fallon that her father is wrong to discourage her from pursuing her dreams.
