Lloyd Dallas
Lloyd is the sarcastic director of "Nothing On." He has an inflated self-image, comparing himself to God, and does not seem to care much about the production of "Nothing On," as he keeps talking about other plays he is working on. He is in a love triangle with Poppy and Brooke.
Timothy Allgood
Tim is the stage manager. He has not had a break in days because Lloyd keeps him busy with odd-jobs. He even has to understudy the roles played by Selsdon (the burglar) and Freddy (Philip Brent and the Sheik).
Poppy Norton-Taylor
Poppy is the assistant stage manager. However, she can be very emotional. She is part of the Lloyd-Brooke-Poppy love triangle, which is further complicated by her understudying the part of Brooke. During the production, she reveals to Lloyd that she is pregnant.
Dotty Otley
Dotty is a middle-aged woman with a warm personality. She has invested money in the production of "Nothing On," but does not appear to be a professional or reliable actress because she keeps forgetting her lines and mixes up the usage of props. She plays the part of Mrs. Clackett, who is the housekeeper for the Brent's home.
Garry Lejeune
Unless he recites a script, Garry is unable to finish a sentence. He always ends his utterances with "you know," forcing the others to guess what he means. He respects Lloyd but is unhappy with the unprofessional attitude of the other actors. He has a crush on Dotty, which leads to attacks on Freddy, who is friendly with her. Garry plays the role of Roger Tramplemain, the estate agent who is looking to rent Flavia and Philip’s house, which he uses to impress his date, Vicky.
Frederick Fellowes
Freddy is an insecure man who gets a nosebleed whenever he witnesses violence. He constantly asks for motivation, claiming that he must understand why his character is doing things to portray the character accurately. In "Nothing On," Freddy plays the parts of Philip Brent and the Sheikh. Philip is the owner of the estate that the play is set in and lives in Spain to evade the tax authorities. He secretly came back to England to spend his anniversary with Flavia at home. The Sheikh is interested in renting Philip's house.
Brooke Ashton
Brooke is a young and inexperienced actress who is oblivious to what is happening around her. She keeps losing her contact lenses, which leads to delays in the production. She is part of the love triangle with Lloyd and Poppy. Brooke plays the role of Vicky, who works for the tax authorities and is on a date with Roger.
Belinda Blair
Belinda is a reliable and talented actress who tries to keep the production together with her improvisations. She also protects Freddy from Garry. In "Nothing On," she plays the role of Flavia Brent, who secretly visits her house with her husband.
Selsdon Mowbray
Selsdon is an elderly actor with a drinking problem. He often forgets his lines or forgets to show up altogether, so the others have to look for him. He plays the burglar in "Nothing On," breaking into the Brent's house; he turns out to be Vicky's father.
