What events lead to the hangings Wiesel describes?

How does wiesel feel about his evening meal after each hanging? What do his reactions suggest about how he is changing

The first prisoner is hung after stealing two bowls of soup, Eliezer enjoyed his soup that night.

The second set of hangings came after a bombing when a man and his assistant were accused of setting off explosives at a power plant. The prisoners wept at their executions, and Eliezer noted the soup they were served that evening tasted like corpses.
