The father hasn't seen his daughter in a very long time; this is the point where after he suffered a very long separation, he gets to spend a day with his little girl.

He worries about her clothing (she gets her dress dirty)

He worries about ant bites (she's had them before)

He worries that his daughter will become aware of what's happened to the deer.

He's most worried that she'll go home, and her mother will have something to blame him for and keep her away.
