On Page 22, what does the condition of the synagogue symbolize?

There are two very important symbols here. First, the synagogue resembled a train station, not a place of worship. Second, the destruction of the train station symbolizes the destruction of the Jews; the separation of the men and women, symbolizes their final separation at the camps.
