How believable are the characters? Which character do you identify with?

I would not even pretend to know what the Holocaust was like. I can, however, appreciate characters like Elie who tries to keep him and his father alive despite the most heinous of terrors and abuses. I especially appreciated Ellie’s constant struggle reconciling his faith with the suffering of Jews in the camp.
