"The ghetto was ruled by neither German nor Jew; it was ruled by delusion."  The irony in this sentence is that the Jews are actually fooling themselves into believing that the life in a ghetto is a life of a kind of freedom, when, in fact, the noose of the Nazis and their horrible treatment of the Jews is drawing ever tighter and tighter.
