What is the relationship between love and desperation in these poems?
In this set of poems, love seems to arise out of desperation or act in concert with it—the lovers in "Aubade with Burning City" come together in the context of the desperate evacuation of Saigon, the lovers in "A Little Closer to the Edge" seem to need each other because of their desperate circumstances, the couple in "Immigrant Haibun" are brought closer by the extreme situation in which they find themselves. Even the dancing boy in "Trojan" seems to love himself only in an environment of extremes.
