WHAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE CHANGE IN HIS EMOTIONS??

Immediately Bigger found out that He had murdered Mary, He was extremely terrified, then the next day He felt proud and confident about himself. What brought about the sudden change in his emotions??

I think that Bigger, for once in his life, felt a sense control. He had imposed his will on a white person and is confident he will get away with it.
