Media and popular culture reinforces racial stereotypes in the novel, Native Son. There is a racial hierarchy imbedded in both blacks and whites alike. In the films Bigger sees, whites are depicted as attractive, glamorous, and "civilized" while he also notices that blacks are portrayed as savages and less attractive. Even Bigger's surroundings are filled with poor and marginalized black people. Blacks and whites reinforce this racial hierarchy. When Bigger meets the Daltons, for example, he internalizes the role of subjugated black servant.
