Bigger is always afraid. His lack of power and control even in the smallest aspects of his life scares him. To Bigger, whites hold all the cards. Bigger feels subjugated by whites from all backgrounds which puts him in a constant state of fear. Whites wield power over him which causes Bigger fear. This fear controls many of the actions that get Bigger in trouble.
