Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass

Why did Douglass pretend to be uninterested in the advice of the two Irishmen who were unloading stone? What advice did they give him?

I need the answer.

Both Isishmen encourage Frederick to escape slavery and move North. Frederick thought about the advice but did not show it because it was known of white men to encourage slaves to escape and get the reward for catching them and returning them to their masters.
