The Land of Almost Awake
The Land of Almost Awake is where Elsa spends most of her time. She loves going to her grandmother’s house, where there is peace and quiet, diving into the world of hardships and failures, but ultimately love and strength together with her best friend. She learns of many stories starring amazing faeries and trolls, before she learns that they were actually real stories of events that happened to and around her grandmother.
Grandmother dies
Early on in the story, grandmother dies, thus leaving Elsa alone without any close friends. Fending of her problems the best she can. It doesn’t work out well, as Elsa really begins being bullied and outcast. She learns, slowly but surely to stand up for herself as she learns more about the people grandmother helped, as well as beginning to put her stories into her own life and learning from them.
Elsa’s inheritance
Grandmother left a lot behind her when she died, including her apartment. Elsa learns that she is the one that inherited it, leaving her with new responsibilities. This might be the most important imagery in the book, as it represents everything grandmother gave Elsa. She didn’t only inherit an apartment, but her wisdom and strength as well, as she gathered knowledge through the letters her grandmother wrote.
