Why does Mr. M want Thami to have a white partner?

Mr. M believes that although Thami is his most brilliant student, his success will heavily be decided upon color. He believes that a negative audience will bring him down and affect his performance. By pairing him with Isabel, the audience will not base their responses...... positive or negative, based upon Thami's race, but rather, his performance.
