Why did Isabel start a debate so badly and finish strongly?

Isabel's debate began badly because she was out of her element. She was not in her own school, she was not practicing in front of her family..... she felt unsafe..... exposed. Isabel, none-the-less, gathered her wits about her quickly, and her debate was a huge success.
