In my opinion, Fugard's play is relevant to periods throughout history. From the beginning of time, oppression and inequality have existed on this earth, and people have stood up to revolt against their oppressors. Violence and self-sacrifice in the name of a cause is recorded historically and continues to be recorded in modern times.
