Morning Star Background

Morning Star is a science fiction novel written by novelist Pierce Brown, and is part three of his Red Rising trilogy. The book was published in the US on February 9, 2016 by Del Rey Books. It si preceded by both Red Rising (2014) and Golden Son (2015).

The book follows of from Golden Son, and begins with the presumed dead, Darrow, having escaped his torture and imprisonment at the hands of Adrius au Augustus, known as ‘Jackal.’ The book follows on with Darrow trying to overthrow Jackal and the dictatorial Sovereign of the Society. Along the way he faces death of loved ones and the betrayal of those he considered his allies, all the while trying to win the war against Jackal.

The book was heavily praised and reached #1 on The New York Times Best Seller list. Publishers Weekly raved that "Brown's vivid, first-person prose puts the reader right at the forefront of impassioned speeches, broken families, and engaging battle scenes that don't shy away from the gore as this intrastellar civil war comes to a most satisfying conclusion."

A sequel trilogy was announced in 2016, with the first in the new series being Iron Gold (2018).
