What did the family finally end up doing? Why?

They end up moving to Fargo, North Dakota. There is too much emotional baggage in Bentrock. There are too many people who hold grudges against David's dad for arresting his brother over arresting Frank even though he was guilty of horrible crimes. : the racism was too entrenched.
