Mississippi Trial, 1955

How would Hiram be an embarrassment to Grampa (pg. 138)? On pg. 139, Grampa tells Hiram he is a “good boy”. What is a “good boy” in the Delta?

Grandpa is hoping that Hiram has the same racist ideas common to many whites in the South. A "good boy" means towing the racial line and siding with whites over the oppression of blacks.
