This is a pretty detailed set of questions for this short answer space. Hiram comes to understand his grandfather and doesn't like what he sees. Although there are times of closeness, Hiram ultimately sees grandfather as a racist old man. Hiram hates that his grandfather was involved in the murder of Emmett Till, but that helps explain his own troubled relationship with his father, because his father faced that hatred and resisted it.
