How are Hiram's dad and grandfather different?

Hiram's dad believes in importance of an education and bettering one's life. His grandfather sees the life of a black man as one in which they are created to perform the hard labor while the white men give them orders. Hiram's dad promotes change, and his grandfather is happy to keep things as they are.
