Why did Grandpa try so hard to get rid of his truck in Chapter 14-15?

With Emmett's mother completing her testimony comes another African American witness whose main purpose is to identify Emmett riding in the back of a blue pickup truck. This is curious to the reader as it is known that Grampa also has a blue pickup truck. Grampa doesn't like the thought of having a similar truck.
