Briefly describe what happened between RC and his dad? Why is he leaving for good?

When R.C. returns home from Jackson, he and his father get into a huge fight. Though R.C. has been away working, his father is angry because R.C. hasn't been around to give him money.... and he begins to beat him. R.C.'s father's abuse is nothing new, but R.C. has changed.... and he finally finds the courage he needs to fight back against the abuse. R.C.'s decision to relocate in Jackson is based upon his hope to make a better life for himself, and once he's settled, he wants to bring Naomi to Jackson as well.
