The fur is really an extension of Ms. Brill herself. The parallels are striking. Miss. Brill lives in a box of a room while the fur lives in a box. Miss Brill feels alive only when she visits the park on Sundays: this is the same time the fur is brought out. Miss Brill cannot separate the identity of the fur from her own identity. When the young couple criticizes her fur, Miss. Brill takes this as an insult to herself.
