Shakespeare has Demetrius in love with Hermia at the beginning of the play. Lysander accuses Demetrius of earlier sleeping with Helena but Demetrius swears he loves Hermia. It is the love potion that changes his mind. Does the potion last forever or did Demetrius really love Helena all along. This is up to speculation.
