In a continuation from the previous novel, Michael meets Tessa, a Glow, whilst being held captive at the Amacarra camp. They both meet Jaime, helper of the Electroclan, at the base camp but are ambushed by the Elgen guards, who kill the tribe. Michael manages to kill the Elgen guards and escapes with Tessa and Jaime. However, Jack and Taylor are taken captive before they can escape. Wade is also shot dead in the process of attempting to save Jack.
Elsewhere, Taylor has been arrested for the activities in destroying the power plant, by being aided by the Voice, and Ostin attempts leading an escape but is recaptured by the Peruvians.
Aboard the Ampere, Hatch is being blamed by Chairman Schema for the loss of billions of dollars due to the plant closure. A vote is taken where hatch is votes to be taken to the brig but he manages to escape via aid from the Glows. He manages to collaborate with the Glows to overtake the ship and overtakes Chairman Schema as the new Admiral.
Michael and Tessa and Jaime manage to free the other electroclans except for Taylor and Jack who have been taken. The electroclan members help in attacking the Ampere and free Schema. The Ampere is destroyed whilst everyone escapes. Jaime takes the Electroclan to a safe house where he informs them of Hatch’s plan to take over the world by building up EMPs.
However, it is discovered that Hutch has escape whilst his followers and has also taken with him a child, Lin Yulong, whose power gives him the capability of creating more electric children.
