Mean Girls Quotes and Analysis

Don't have sex. Because you will get pregnant, and die. Don't have sex on the missionary position. Don't have sex standing up. Just...don't do it. Promise? Alright, everybody get some rubbers.

Coach Carr

Coach Carr's Health class parodies the puritanical approach to sex education common in many American high schools. After pleading that the students don't have sex—ever, no exceptions—Coach Carr then distributes prophylactics, knowing that they will anyway.

Gretchen, stop trying to make "fetch" happen. It's not going to happen.

Regina

Regina sternly rebukes Gretchen for trying to popularize the word "fetch," after making her switch places with Cady in the Winter Talent Show, and allegedly not sending her any candy cane notes. The remark helps precipitate Gretchen's mental collapse, on full display in the next scene when she attempts to give an oral presentation on Julius Caesar.

In the real world, Halloween is when kids dress up and beg for candy, but in girl world, Halloween is the one time of year when a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girl can say anything about it.

Cady

Cady recites these lines in voice-over narration, as she recalls the fact that she was unaware that teenage girls should not actually wear scary costumes to a Halloween party.

See? That's the thing with you Plastics. You think everybody is in love with you when in fact everybody hates you!

Janis

Janis shouts this line at Cady from Damian's car, rebuking her for becoming the thing that they both once hated at the beginning of the film. Whereas Cady has been seduced by the power that being a Plastic offers, Janis is repulsed by Cady's behavior.

On Wednesdays we wear pink.

Gretchen

Gretchen excitedly tells this to Cady at the cafeteria lunch table, as she enumerates the various rules that The Plastics have. Throughout the film, Gretchen is often the "rule-keeper," and is the one who eventually furiously tells Regina, "You can't sit with us!"

Grool.

Cady

Cady says this to Aaron by mistake, after trying to say "great" and "cool" at the same time. The word shows up again in the exchange they share in the final scene of the film.

Why are you so obsessed with me?

Regina

Regina says this line when remembering how she felt when Janis Ian was allegedly persistent about the friendship they once shared. Cady later shouts a similar line at Janis, which clearly crosses a line, causing Damian to slam the brakes and yell, "Oh no, she did not!"

I'm not like the other moms. I'm a cool mom.

Regina's mom

Regina's mom delivers this line when talking to The Plastics in Regina's living room. Regina's mom—with her all-pink outfit, tiny dog, and breast implants—is a parody of a suburban, upper-class housewife who is determined to stay current and youthful.

Who here has ever felt personally victimized by Regina George?

Ms. Norbury

In the assembly, Ms. Norbury asks the junior girls this question after Regina stands up and claims to be a "victim." Everyone raises their hands, including several teachers and Mr. Duvall.

The limit does not exist!

Cady

Cady triumphantly says this line in the "sudden death" round of the Mathletes championship, winning the tournament for North Shore High. Aside from its meaning in calculus, the line can refer to Cady having a broader personal breakthrough.
