Macbeth is not in act 1 sc 2 so we have to go by what others say about him. Macbeth is praised for his loyalty to the King Duncan and for his valor in battle. Note the captains glowing review of Macbeth in battle,
For brave Macbeth—well he deserves that name—
Disdaining fortune, with his brandished steel,
Which smoked with bloody execution.
King Duncan is equally impressed with Macbeth and rewards him with the title of Thane of Cawdor,
No more that thane of Cawdor shall deceive
Our bosom interest: go pronounce his present death,
And with his former title greet Macbeth.
