MACBETH

In context, Macbeth is facing his deeds, the murder of Banquo, and event that occurred by his own order. This quote uses tactile imagery to describe Macbeth's feelings... the cold, dead, stare. In response, Macbeth puts on a brave front—"What man dare, I dare" (3.4.119)—and reprimands Banquo for appearing to him as a ghost. He then claims that he can challenge and face any wild animal on earth. before daring the ghost to come alive again and face him, man to man.
