How is Macbeth introduced in the play? Equipped with the knowledge that this play is a tragedy, why do you think Shakespeare begins the narrative here?

Shakespeare uses the witches as a narrative hook to get audience attention. Elizabethans really believed in witches and their trade with Macbeth foreshadows only darkness and betrayal. This is in line with what we expect from tragedy.
