Why does Piggy want Ralph to be the leader?

Ralph is the closest boy that he feels safe with. Piggy knows that he would suffer ceaseless harassment under Jack's rule. Piggy is scared for his life should Jack rule the island. At least Ralph wants order and he wants to be rescued. There is also a kindness about Ralph that is lacking in many other of the boys.
