Why does Piggy tell Ralph he used to be called “Piggy” if he doesn’t want anyone to know or call him that?

He trusts Ralph and does not expect Ralph to do anything to hurt him.  He is sharing information because he wants Ralph to understand how he has been treated in the past hoping that Ralph will be kinder in the present.
