Even before his death, Ralph realized that Piggy could think step by step inside that "fat head of his". Ralph began to confide in Piggy as a friend. He was able to see his worth rather than his fat body. After Piggy's death, Ralph had lost a "true friend". Piggy was not only smart; he had become brave and heroic. Piggy made his last stand in the name of civilization, even in the face of violence.
