The "Lord of the Flies" is set on an uninhabited island in the Pacific Ocean during the mid 1950s. The island plays a major role in the novel, as the isolation, mystery, and desire to survive impacts the characters quite differently, which in turn, impacts their behaviors.
The island is wild and untamed, something reflected in the breakdown of the boys' civilized behavior, as they progressively become as wild and untamed as their environment.Source(s)
