Each major character represents a part of society. Let us consider Ralph and Jack for your question. Ralph represents responsible leadership. Boys must respect the rule of democracy and work to maintain a functioning society. Jack represents a populist power centred leadership. The boys are told what to do and merely believe they are better off. We can see a similar dynamic at play in many countries in the world today.
