Have Ralph and Jack been able to ‘mask’ their differences since chapter 1?

In my opinion, they haven't been able to mask their differences. Ralph doesn't hide his irritation at what he perceives to be Jack's irresponsibility, and Jack hasn't concealed the fact that he will do as he likes, justifying his decicion with what he believes the boys all need...... meat.
