How does Ralph boost the boys morale?

In Chapter Two, Ralph merely has to say that his daddy is in the Navy, and the Queen has a room full of maps: one is sure to be of their island. There is no real credence in this statement that could actually help them, but just hearing it cheers the boys and makes them feel much better.
