How does Ralph boost the boys’ morale?

In chapter two, Ralph merely has to say that his daddy is in the navy and the Queen has a room full of maps: one is sure to be of their island. Of course there is no real credence in this statement that could actually help them. Still the boys cheer and feel much better after Ralph says this.
