How does jack react to the fears on the island?

At first Jack claims there isn't a Beast. Jack however is clever. He leaves doubt in the minds of boys. He says that if there is a Beast, he will kill it thus offering a sense of safety to the boys. Jack gains his authority from irrationality and instinctual fear, manipulating the boys into thinking that there may be a dangerous creature that they should hunt.
