how does chapter 4 open?

Chapter 4 begins with Golding's description of the rhythms of life on the island. The sun is oppressively hot, the littluns ply by themselves and Jack (and his hunters) are off hunting. Ralph, Simon and Piggy still attempt to build shelters.
