How do you know that most of the boys on the plane are strangers to one another before the crash?

After the crash, we learn that the boys do not even know each other's names. They are described as the "fat boy," the "fair boy." Another hint would come when the "fat boy," Piggy, says, "I expect we'll want to know all their names" and suggests they make a list.
