Does ralph understand why he must be killed?

I don't think Ralph ever fully understands why he has to be killed. By chapter 12, he just knows the boys want him dead. At one point in the story, Ralph asks Jack why he hates him so much. Jack of course can't answer this question, he just doesn't know. Ralph still doesn't understand the venomous hate. He runs only in fear and terror.
