The boys chant and dance in what is called their wild hunting dance.  They form several circles, and even Ralph and Piggy nearly get drawn into the dancing.  They are completely out of control only reacting to the intensity of their emotions and the intensity of the storm.  It is this craziness of the dance and their reenactment of the hunt that ultimately leads to their killing of Simon when, in their craziness, they fall on his body and ultimately beat the life out of him.
