Ralph's authority is dwindling. Ralph does not want to climb the mountain or be lured into Jack's aggressive manipulations. Ralph, however, has no choice. Jack has already planted the seeds of discontent by labelling Ralph a weak coward tantamount to Piggy. Ralph does not have the authority to challenge Jack anymore.
